Man arrested in Bent County following attempted abductions

According to a social media post by the Bent County Sheriff’s Office, Aaron Maldanado was arrested May 9 following an incident involving two juveniles near downtown Las Animas. Deputies responded to a report of a man around 6th and Cottonwood Streets approaching and grabbing juveniles.

According to the Sheriff's Office, around 7:30 p.m., a female juvenile reported Maldanado grabbed her arm, while a male juvenile stated Maldanado grabbed his forearm attempted to pull him. Deputies located Maldanado in the 200 block of Saint Vrain Avenue and took him into custody without incident.

Maldanado is currently being held at the Bent County Jail on multiple charges, including:

  • criminal attempt (C.R.S. 18-2-101 x2)
  • second-degree kidnapping (C.R.S. 18-3-302(2) x2)
  • harassment (C.R.S. 18-9-111(1)(a)(c) x2)
  • assault in the third degree (C.R.S. 18-3-204(1)(a) x2)
  • menacing (C.R.S. 18-3-206(1)x2)
  • criminal mischief (C.R.S. 18-4-501(1)(a)).

Maldanado’s bond has been set at $10,000.
